Members of the ESPN media received death threats from New England Patriots fans over their coverage of the “Deflate Gate” situation.

The New England Patriots have been hearing a lot about “Deflate Gate” over the past couple of weeks as they prepared for Super Bowl 49. It certainly was a distraction, but the team didn’t allow it to have much of an effect on their preparation.

Both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick talked about the situation and denied any involvement, but it is still discussed quite often among NFL fans. Unfortunately, some Patriots fans took the situation too far.

According to ESPN’s Tom Jackson, some of his colleagues in the media were receiving death threats from Patriots fans due to their coverage of the situation.

It is absolutely pathetic that any fan would stoop to that level due to news coverage. Not only was ESPN covering a very legitimate story, they weren’t taking sides by any stretch of the imagination. All that was being done was normal coverage of a huge story that was unfolding a bit more each day.

There is absolutely no place for a death threat in the world of sports, especially in this situation. It is understandable that fans weren’t happy with all of the negative coverage about their team, but that happens for every fan and every team at some point.

That being said, those same Patriot fans that made death threats are going to be enjoying Super Bowl 49 with their team still alive. Hopefully those that did make the death threats received a nice visit at their door from the local police department.

All of that being said, it is just another sign of the disappointing trend that our world has been taking. When people make death threats over news coverage simply because they don’t appreciate what they hear, the morals that many lack come to the forefront. It seems absolutely ridiculous that a fan would take something like that so seriously as to make the most serious threat than any human being can make.

New England will take on the defending NFL champion Seattle Seahawks tonight in what is expected to be a very entertaining game. Neither team has been given much of an advantage, and they both have excellent coaches leading the way. Despite this disgusting piece of news, Super Bowl Sunday has arrived and fans of every team can settle in and enjoy the big game.
