New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady says he has to be mentally tough and overcome the Deflategate controversy to win the Super Bowl.

As the Deflategate controversy has consumed the sports world, many have wondered what effect it will have on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady recently addressed that subject, telling NBC Sports’ Bob Costas the following:

"“I think there was a little bit of an energy drain, like I said, with my emotions and my feelings being involved earlier in the week. But you gotta be able to move past those things and compartmentalize those things and be mentally tough enough to go out there and try to shine through.”"

Considering how many big games Brady has played in during his career, one has to figure the quarterback is tough enough to move past the Deflategate controversy.

The future Hall of Famer also spoke at length with Costas about the Deflategate controversy, even saying he understands why many people would doubt his story that he had nothing to do with the Patriots using deflated footballs in the AFC Championship game.
