NFL commissioner Roger Goodell received a chorus of boos while presenting the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl XLIX.

It’s no secret that a lot of people don’t like Roger Goodell. During the Lombardi Trophy presentation at Super Bowl XLIX, before he handed the trophy over to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, the attending fans at the game let him know it.

When Roger Goodell’s name was announced, you hear a rain of boos come down from the fans immediately.

It’s not too uncommon for a commissioner to get booed when he’s publicly introduced. Just ask NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Every year he presents the Stanley Cup, Bettman gets booed so loudly you can’t even hear what he’s saying into the microphone.

However, the boos directed at Goodell this time have a bit more meaning behind them. They came after a year that saw Goodell completely botch the Ray Rice domestic abuse situation, suspending him only two games before getting a bunch of heat for it and eventually suspending him indefinitely.

More recently, there was the whole deflate-gate situation with the New England Patriots. The investigation showed that the balls were deflated, but no supplemental discipline was handed out to the Patriots. In all fairness, I don’t think any supplemental discipline was deserved in this case.

Also, the week before the Super Bowl, Goodell was seen in a photograph with the Kraft family at their house. Not for nothing, but you probably shouldn’t do that the week before the Super Bowl, it indicates a conflict of interest.

Needless to say, the NFL fans aren’t too pleased with Goodell at this moment, and they certainly let him know it at the Super Bowl.
