Lake Placid to hold the first 1980 Miracle on Ice reunion
The members of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team will get together for the first ever reunion of the Miracle on Ice in Lake Place, NY.
35 years since the 1980 Winter Olympics and the Miracle on Ice, the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team will reunite in Lake Placid, where it all happened.
According to NBC OlympicTalk, the celebration will take place in the very same arena that the U.S. defeated the Soviet Union 4-3 in the medal round that propelled them to the gold medal game against Finland, who the U.S. defeated as well to win the gold medal. It was the last time that a U.S. Olympic hockey team has won gold.

All living members from the team will be in attendance to give their personal perspective on their experiences, as well as original photos, audio and video footage from the 1980 Winter Olympics.
Former U.S. Olympian Dave Christian is excited for the celebration.
"To be able to share our story with fans has always been a pleasure, and given the 35th Anniversary is in 2015, this seems like a great time to reach as many people as possible. Honestly, sharing the stories never gets old, because it always ends with a smile on someone’s face."
All members from the 1980 Olympic hockey team will be in attendance except for, unfortunately, one. Former U.S. Olympian and NHL defenseman Bob Suter passed away in September of a heart attack. He was the first of the 1980 team to pass away.
The celebration will conclude with Suter’s #20 jersey being raised to the rafters of Herb Brooks Arena, the arena that the Miracle on Ice happened.
The 1980 Miracle on Ice reunion is part of the 8th annual Hockey Weekend Across America. It is a three-day long celebration of the sport of hockey across the entire country. Being that the 35 year anniversary of the Miracle on Ice falls right on the weekend of HWAA, it seems like a perfect time to hold the reunion.
Time to break out your Miracle DVD’s folks. I still get chills whenever I watch that movie.
