Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett might remain with the team past this season in a front-office capacity.

Thanks to a NBA trade deadline deal, Kevin Garnett is a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves again… and that relationship could extend well beyond his playing days.

According to the Star Tribune, Garnett, who might retire after this season, could remain with the team as an executive. When asked about the situation, Garnett did not commit to anything, but made clear he wants to stay with the organization for years to come.

"“Garnett has made no commitment beyond this season,” said president of basketball operations and coach Flip Saunders, “but we are hopeful of a long-term connection.”The good news is that Garnett did say his future is in Minnesota, in whatever capacity.“Every year I like to listen to my body,” he said Tuesday, when asked if he would play next year. “I’ve been taking care of myself since I left here, or since I started. I don’t want to answer anything that’s going to get me tied up in anything that I can’t commit to. But I will say that I’m going to listen to my body, I’m going to talk to my family, see what my options are and then go from there. The plan is to come here and not be one or two years, but to be here invested. That’s what it is. I don’t have no answer for you right now.”"

It’s not a surprise at all to hear Garnett state his plan of continued involvement with the Timberwolves. It’s hard to imagine KG would have waived his trade clause in order to join one of the worst teams in the Western Conference if he didn’t want to have a post-career involvement with the team. Garnett has stated in the past that he wants to buy the organization at some point, which makes clear just how much interest he has in the team.

Minnesota drafted Garnett with the No. 5 pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. KG spent the first 12 years of his career with Minnesota before being traded to the Boston Celtics.

He’s averaging 18.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game for his career. He is a one-time NBA champion and MVP, 15-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA First Team selection.
