Miami saves $5.95 million in cap space with the move releasing of Hartline who was signed to a five-year, $33.775 million after back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons in 2012 and 2013. He regressed mightily in 2014 with only 39 catches for 474 yards and two touchdowns.

Gibson was in his second season in Miami and caught 29 passes for 295 yards and one touchdown last year. He started five games and appeared in 14 games for the fish who may not be done making changes at the position.

Mike Wallace is not willing to restructure his contract that has three years and $32.75 million remaining on the lucrative free agent deal he signed two years ago, so the potential is there for Wallace to be released too if he doesn’t budge from his current stance.

The Dolphins drafted former LSU receiver Jarvis Landry in the second round of last year’s draft and he could be the team’s No. 1 this year after catching 84 passes for 758 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie.

He also returned 25 punts and was one of the better kickoff returner as a rookie with an average of 28.1 yards on 32 returns.

Could the Dolphins use their first round pick on a wide receiver in the 2015 NFL Draft?

They own the No. 14 pick so top prospects Kevin White and Amari Cooper figure to be off the board by that point, but Louisville’s DeVante Parker could be available when the Dolphins are on the clock and would give them a nice nucleus at the position opposite Landry.
