NASCAR at Atlanta: Joey Logano wins pole

During qualifying at Atlanta Motor Speedway for this weekend’s Sprint Cup Series race, Joey Logano kept his Daytona momentum alive by winning the pole.

Following a win in the Daytona 500 to start the season, Joey Logano has secured the pole position for this weekend’s Folds of Honor Quicktrip 500 — which takes place on Sunday afternoon at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
While it was another quality day for Logano, it was a poor outing for the likes of Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart, who were unable to participate in the qualifying because their cars did not go through NASCAR inspection in time.
But for Logano, starting on the pole is just the beginning. He is hoping he will be able to finish in front of the rest of the field, as well.
“Wow, what a great car, to win the Daytona 500 and come back and put it on the pole here at Atlanta,” Logano said, via NBC Sports. “The first time I came here, I qualified 42nd. I’ve always remembered that. To be able to be on both ends of it now is pretty special.
“I really want to win here. I lived here for six years. I used to race on the quarter-mile (track) out here in my Legends car for years. It’s really cool to be starting first and hopefully we can finish there.”
