Ricky Jean Francois has signed with the Washington Redskins.

When Scot McCloughan was brought in to be the general manager of the Washington Redskins, there wasn’t really much thought he’d be active in free agency. Washington had a plethora of needs on both sides of the football and re-building through the draft was seen as the cheaper and smarter way. However, the Redskins made one of their first major moves of  the offseason earlier today by bringing in Ricky Jean Francois.

Back in 2010 and 2011, when Jean Francois was a member of the San Francisco 49ers, McCloughan was the general manager and a big supporter of Jean Francois, who at that time was coming out of LSU. In the seventh round, the 49ers selected Jean Francois and as a rotational defensive linemen who showed some versatility, he had some value on that team. After signing with the Indianapolis Colts after just two years, Jean Francois played some of the best football of his career and now by signing with the Redskins at 28 years old, Jean Francois is in the prime of his career and he will be looking to make an even bigger impact in 2015.

According to ESPN.com, the Redskins signed Jean Francois earlier today. Considering the contract he received with the Colts in 2013, the Redskins got a pretty good deal. They signed him to a three-year deal worth up to $9 million with $4 million guaranteed. With incentives added, Jean Francois could make a little over $11 million.

With Jean Francois now on the roster, Jason Hatcher has to start thinking of his job and if he will have it in the coming future. Last season, the Redskins were once again horrible against the pass. Despite that, they do have some solid players on their defensive line in Ryan Kerrigan and Trent Murphy. Hatcher looked terrible last season after signing a career deal. Jean Francois won’t save the day, but he will be a nice addition across this defensive line.
