All UFC 184 fighters will be drug tested, urine and blood.

The UFC came out and instituted some harsher drug testing regulations after both fighters in the main event of UFC 183 were popped for positive tests. Anderson Silva tested positive for performance enhancing drugs while Nick Diaz was popped for marijuana.

During the prelims of UFC 184 on Fox Sports, Ariel Helwani reported that all fighters will be tested, not once, but twice and in two different ways, urine and blood.

Helwani reported that the urine test will occur before the fights while the blood tests will take place afterwards, which stands to reason. You can’t have fighters giving blood before competing inside the Octagon.

Notably, this is the first time in California state history that this strict of testing will take place.

It is important to note that this is a California decision, so this won’t be the case for fight cards in other states going forward. But it definitely sends a message that they’re taking the matter seriously and might be paving the path for others to follow.
