Morris Claiborne’s knee injury is concerning the Dallas Cowboys.

When the Dallas Cowboys moved up in the 2012 NFL Draft to select Morris Claiborne, it was seen as a move that would immediately bolster their secondary.

After all, the Cowboys were horrific in 2011 against the pass. Because of that, the Cowboys signed Brandon Carr to a $50 million contract in free agency and after they brought in Claiborne to pair with Carr, there was a thought that one of the Cowboys’ weaknesses from the season before would become one of their strengths.

Claiborne’s inability to stay healthy has really stunted his growth in his career and he has yet to maximize his potential, which could potentially be a shutdown cornerback. It hasn’t just been his health. Claiborne really just has gotten dominated by many receivers since he has joined the league.

However, the Cowboys are concerned about Claiborne after he suffered a torn patellar tendon in November of 2014. Claiborne also had his knee scoped in January.

According to ESPN Dallas, the Cowboys are concerned about Claiborne. Considering that he is entering his contract year, if he does nothing to prove himself worthy to the Cowboys in 2015, it wouldn’t come as a surprise at all if he were on another team in 2016.

Claiborne is questionable to return to training camp and it’s yet to be seen what his role will be this upcoming season. In the last year of his rookie contract, Claiborne is set to make $2.6 million.

With the uncertainty over contract and the Cowboys offering Carr a pay cut, it’s clear that the Cowboys aren’t wasting any time in addressing their secondary. Whether that means the upgrades will come through free agency or in the draft, for Dallas to make a run next season, they will need to improve this area on their team. Orlando Scandrick needs some help in this secondary.

With the free agency class lacking starting talent, the Cowboys may be forced to use a high draft pick on a cornerback. Some options that come to mind are Alex Carter, Kevin Johnson, and Jalen Collins.
