Yoenis Cespedes wants to be a member of the Detroit Lions past 2015.

After being traded to the Detroit Tigers at the end of the season, it looks like Yoenis Cespedes wants to be a member of the Tigers for the foreseeable future. Although Cespedes has struggled since his first season in the MLB, where he hit 23 home runs with 82 runs batted in with a batting average of .292.

Since that season, which was in 2012, Cespedes hasn’t had a season where he’s hit better than .269. Despite the drop in average, Cespedes still remains a same home run threat.

After all, Cespedes has won the Home Run Derby for two years straight.

With Torii Hunter going back to the Minnesota Twins, the Tigers were in need of outfield help.

However, with Cespedes wanting to play long-term in Detroit, it looks as if the Tigers have found the solution to their problem. Bill Baer of Hardball Talk reported tonight that Cespedes wants to play for the Tigers past 2015.

Cespedes talked about the team and how he believes this team will be a good one for years to come.

"“I would like to be in a Tigers uniform for many years, “It’s a good team now and it will be for many years to come. Every major league player wants a ring, and with this team, you have a really good chance.”"

In 2015, Cespedes will be in the last year of his contract. He is slated to make $10.5 million this season. After the season, Cespedes will be eligible to sign elsewhere in free agency. However, he has already made it clear that his intentions are to stay in Detroit long-term.

If Cespedes does go elsewhere in free agency this summer, the Tigers will not receiver a compensatory pick. Although his play is slipped a bit over the past few years, coming to a hitter-friendly ballpark like Comerica Park could do wonders for the Cuban native.
