The San Francisco 49ers have set up a meeting with Darnell Dockett.

Although he was released by the Arizona Cardinals less than a week ago, the San Francisco 49ers are reportedly interested in bringing in defensive tackle Darnell Dockett for a visit. When the 2015 NFL season rolls around, Dockett will be 34 years old, and although his career has tailed off in recent years, he can still make an impact in the right position.

The 49ers released Ray McDonald in the middle of last year, and with Justin Smith contemplating retirement, it’s really no surprise at all that the 49ers are intrigued by the possibility of adding a player like Dockett to their roster.

Ed Werder was the first to report the news. Werder reported that the 49ers would be bringing in Dockett Monday night to start the visit. That being said, the 49ers are wasting no time getting into the sweepstakes for Dockett’s services.

New head coach Jim Tomsula is one of the best defensive coaches in the league. Over the past few years, Tomsula has made great players out of Aldon Smith and even Aaron Lynch. Tomsula is a defensive line guru and adding a player like Dockett would greatly help this defensive line as they could be without an excellent player in Justin Smith.

Dockett has a little bit left in the tank and the 49ers most definitely believe that.
