NFL Rumors: Redskins interested in signing DT Ndamukong Suh
By Evan Massey
The Washington Redskins are interested in signing star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh assuming the Detroit Lions don’t sign him long-term before free agency opens up.
Ndamukong Suh is one of many names that are expected to hit the free agent market this offseason, and there is going to be a lot of interest in him if he does. The Detroit Lions chose not to place the franchise tag on him, and it isn’t likely that they will find a way to lock him up long-term before free agency opens.
One team to keep an eye on with interest is the Washington Redskins, according to NBC’s Dianna Marie Russini.
Washington is in desperate need of help on the defensive side of the football, after ranking just 24th against the pass and 12th against the run. Their run defense wasn’t too terrible, but it would take a huge step forward with the addition of Suh. He would also help the pass defense, as it would help improve their pass rush a bit.

During the 2014 season with the Lions, Suh ended up recording 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks. They may not look like dominant numbers, but the attention that he drew from opposing offensive lines helped the Lions defense all-around.
At 28 years old, Suh is likely signing his last mega-deal before age begins taking a toll on him. He still has a few years of top-notch football left, but after that his athleticism will begin to fade. There will still be a few more good seasons after that, but his tenure as the most dominant defensive tackle likely only has 3-5 years left.
Suh is 6’4″ and 305 pounds, which explains why the Lions had the NFL’s best run defense in the NFL. He is a plug in the middle by himself, and is too big for any offensive lineman to handle by himself without any support all game long.
If the Redskins were able to snag Suh, their defense would be much more competitive. The Redskins haven’t had a lot of success in recent history, and they are due to catch a break. Being able to sign a defensive leader like Suh would be exactly what the doctor ordered for the Redskins.
All of that being said, the Lions have not given up hope of re-signing him. They are going to offer a competitive deal, but it will all come down to whether or not he really wants to stay in Detroit. Only time will tell what will happen with Suh, but the Redskins will be interested if they get a chance.
