The Minnesota Wild traded for Jordan Leopold in the final minutes before the NHL trade deadline and the final push could have come from his daughter, Jordyn, who wrote a touching letter to the team to trade for her daddy.

Monday’s NHL trade deadline came and went without much fanfare with the bulk of the trades made in the days leading up to the deadline.

However, one deal that did get consummated before the deadline was the Columbus Blue Jackets trading Jordan Leopold to the Minnesota Wild for Justin Faulk and a fifth round pick.

More from NHL

On the surface this is a deal to give the surging Wild some depth on the blue-line in the form of the 34-year-old veteran defenseman who is a Golden Valley, Minnesota, native and played in 25 games this year for the St. Louis Blues and Blue Jackets.

He has one goal and two assists this year, so what was the driving point behind this deal?

Well, it could have been a push from Leopold’s daughter, Jordyn, who wrote a letter to the Wild front-office pleading for them to bring her daddy home.

“Well, my dad is very lonely without his family,” the letter reads, via KFAN. “We are living in Minnesota right now and I am lost without my dad and so is my mom, my 2 sisters and my brother.”

Doesn’t that just tug at the heartstrings?!

“It has been since November and we can not take it any more,” she writes in the letter. “To get to the point, the Wild have not been winning games and you lovely coaches are most likely mad about that but your team needs some more D men so can you please, please, please ask the Jackets if you guys can get him?!”

This isn’t a deal that will push the Wild closer to the Stanley Cup, but it is a deal that should give general manager Chuck Fletcher some votes for executive of the year.
