The Houston Texans will be parting ways with Andre Johnson one way or the other in the coming weeks.

After being told he would be placed in a more limited role, Andre Johnson wanted out of Houston. The Texans are allowing Johnson to pursue a trade, but if no deal is reached they will release the 7-time pro-bowler

Andre Johnson will not be a Houston Texan for the 2015-16 season. Johnson has spent his whole twelve year career with the Texans but is now either going to be traded or released.

Apparently, a reduced role was not what Andre Johnson had in mind for the 2015 season. Johnson is coming off a season in which he caught 85 passes for 936 yards and 3 touchdowns. This production is lower than the expectations the Texans had for Johnson. After all, he did put up two 1,500+ receiving yards and 8+ touchdown reception seasons.

So the Texans are allowing Johnson to seek out a trade. A small consolation prize for the once super star receiver.

If no one decides to jump at this opportunity, Johnson would be released to free agency and try to latch onto any team that would sign him.

A team that would seek out a receiver like Andre Johnson would be one that is in need of a veteran leader who is still ready to put up solid numbers each night. While Johnson is 34 years old, he can still show flashes of his 2009 self from time to time. At the very least he would be a big target for a young quarterback to gain some confidence with.

The team that comes to mind is the St. Louis Rams. While the Rams are rumored to be taking a rookie wide receiver in the NFL draft, Andre Johnson could be the medicine the Rams offense need.

Well, part of the medicine that is. They would still need Sam Bradford to not only stay healthy but also not turn the ball over. I’m not sure which one is more likely to happen.

If no team signs Johnson and he is thrown out on that brutal free agent market what would that mean for the veteran? We could possibly see the end of “The Natural” in the NFL. Although, I can’t imagine a world where Johnson wouldn’t get signed on by any team. At the end of the day when the dust has settled, the Raiders would probably sign him to a small deal before they let that talent sit in the stands in 2015.
