LeSean McCoy was just acquired by the Buffalo Bills from the Philadelphia Eagles, but he is already expected to “make noise” about getting a new contract and could possibly hold out.

Perhaps the biggest trade of recent NFL history went down earlier this evening when LeSean McCoy was traded by the Philadelphia Eagles to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for talented young linebacker Kiko Alonso. McCoy was considered the face of the Eagles’ franchise the past couple of seasons, and the trade came out of nowhere.

There have been rumblings that the Eagles could look to deal McCoy, but the trade with Buffalo came out of the blue. He will be a huge pickup for the Bills, but there are some things that could complicate the deal for the Bills.

McCoy’s contract situation is the number one thing that could become a nightmare for the Bills. The fact that he is already expected to make noise about wanting a new deal and threatening not to report is a big concern. He has been known to have a bit of an attitude, but the Bills are willing to take a gamble because of the difference that he can make for them.

Rex Ryan was hired as the Bills’ new head coach this past offseason, and this move is exactly the type of move that can help make the Bills playoff contenders again. They will need to figure out a way to acquire a better starting quarterback than E.J. Manuel, but this is a huge step in the right direction.

During the 2014 season, McCoy ended up rushing for 1,319 yards and five touchdowns on 312 carries. He is just 26 years old, which gives him quite a few good years of football left before he starts slowing down.

Buffalo finished last season at 9-7 and narrowly missed the playoffs. They had a couple of games that they should have won, and the future is very bright for them. Ryan is the perfect coaching hire for them moving forward to help take them over the hump, and if they can get a new deal done with McCoy they will have a much improved offense.

All of that being said, this situation will be very intriguing to watch throughout the course of the offseason. Buffalo wouldn’t have made this trade unless they planned to sign McCoy long-term, but he will be asking for some big money.

Expect things to end well for both the Bills and McCoy, and for a long-term deal to get done at some point in the fairly near future.
