Russell Westbrook records fourth straight triple-double
By Evan Massey
Oklahoma City Thunder superstar point guard Russell Westbrook recorded his fourth straight triple-double this evening in a win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Russell Westbrook has been putting together a very nice MVP resume this season, and he continued that show this evening. It was a shock that he decided to play this evening after undergoing surgery on a facial fracture that had left a dent in the side of his head.
Despite the surgery and mask he had to wear, Westbrook ended up recording his fourth straight triple-double and has six on the season.
Needless to say, Westbrook is having a historical stretch of games here as the stretch run towards the NBA Playoffs begins. He has had to pick his game up this year with all of the injury issues that Kevin Durant has been dealing with, and he has embraced the challenge and conquered it.

Prior to tonight’s game, Westbrook was averaging 26.5 points, 8.1 assists, and 6.8 rebounds per game. He was shooting 43.2 percent from the floor overall and 27.7 percent from behind the three-point arc. Those numbers are definitely MVP caliber, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him end up winning the award if he finishes the season as strong as he has been playing.
Oklahoma City is still working to make their way into the playoffs, and currently hold the eighth playoff seed. It is going to be very intriguing to see how the Western Conference playoffs end up looking like when the final game of the regular season has been played.
Westbrook ended up scoring 49 points to go along with 16 points and 10 rebounds this evening. That stat-line is absolutely ridiculous, especially for a point guard. It is simply amazing to watch these types of performances, and Westbrook has put together a handful of them this season.
All of that being said, there aren’t too many words to express the stretch that Westbrook has been playing. There haven’t been many players in recent NBA history that have been as dominant in every facet of the game as Westbrook has been. He took the weaknesses that he has had over the past few seasons and made them strengths this year.
Expect to see him continue the type of dominating basketball that he has been playing, and lead the Thunder throughout the rest of the regular season. Whether they make the playoffs or not, he has proven that he is an elite superstar in the NBA.
