Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul frantically tells his teammate DeAndre Jordan to shoot the game winning layup against the Portland Trail Blazers.

People regard Chris Paul the best point guard because he can do anything needed on the basketball court.

Paul’s a pit bull defensively, he’s a pass first point guard who enjoys getting his teammates involved in games, he’s an aggressive scorer when his team needs it, and more importantly he’s played in the league for nine years and has shown himself as a winner.

Before Wednesday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Paul had a 5-1 record vs. Portland’s two-time All-Star point guard, Damian Lillard. However after the game on Wednesday night Paul would end up having a 5-2 record as he saw his Los Angeles Clippers lose a crushing home 98-93 defeat.

The most interesting sequence of basketball occurred during the final two possessions of the contest. There was less than 30 seconds left in the game as Nicolas Batum made a wide open 25-foot jump shot as J.J. Redick gambled for a steal and came up empty. Batum made the Clippers pay because he was so open and his three-pointer left the game tied 87-87 with only 25.1 seconds remaining.

Clippers head coach Doc Rivers called a timeout in order to get his team a wonderful attempt for a game winner and Rivers succeeded. On the ensuing possession for the Clippers they got the basketball into the hands of Paul with 1.7 seconds remaining on the shot clock. Paul caught the inbound pass from Hedo Turkoglu and curled to the basket on the left side of the court. Paul drove to the rim and shot a layup from a few feet away. Paul missed the layup as it rimmed out falling into the hands of center DeAndre Jordan.

The six-year center from Houston, Texas got Paul’s rebound and instead of laying up the missed attempt for the game-winner he playfully held the basketball in his right hand to show how easy it could have been if he were to shoot it. Jordan heard the shot clock buzzer go off thinking it was the end of game clock and didn’t think about attempting to win. The person who knew it was the shot clock Jordan had just heard was his point guard Paul, and he frantically demanded that Jordan shoot the basketball.

Look at a closeup of Paul’s emotions, his face says it all.

Jordan never did and the game went to overtime. Thanks to Batum going off in overtime the Clippers ended up losing the game, but the contest should have never made it to the free basketball period. The Clippers got their best chance to win the game if Jordan had more court awareness like his eight-time All-Star point guard, Paul.

For the Clippers they need all the wins they can get. They currently have the fifth seed in the Western Conference and the Oklahoma City Thunder are surging and want to advance with their seeding. The Thunder have won eight out of their last ten and aren’t finishing moving up the for better playoff seeding.
