Ian Rapoport says that teams around the NFL know it is not out of the question for a trade to take place regarding Jay Cutler

Jay Cutler signed a lucrative seven year, 126.7 million dollar deal with the Chicago Bears last year. Of course that was before a number of things happened to the Bears. They finished the year with a record of 5-11, even benching their starting quarterback for the final game of the season.

That was also before the Bears officially placed star wide receiver Brandon Marshall on the trading block. And maybe most importantly that was way before the Bears are leaving all options open regarding Jay Cutler’s future with the Bears just one year after the contract was signed.

Well, I guess hind sight is 20/20.

In a report by NFL insider, Ian Rapoport, teams around the league “certainly know” that Jay Cutler is available to them. That’s right, apparently the Bears are having a little buyers remorse about signing Cutler to that expensive contract before last season.

If both Cutler and Marshal were traded by the Bears, it would mark the end of an era in Chicago. An era that saw more injury and disappointment than any success. When Cutler was signed by the Bears in 2009, he was seen as a savior. A savior of the Bears offense.

In the 2000s it was clear that the reason the Bears weren’t winning a Super Bowl wasn’t because of their defense. In fact, their defense basically dragged them to the Super Bowl in XLI. Rex Grossman, former Bears quarterback could not push the Bears past a Peyton Manning fueled Indianapolis Colts team as he threw 2 interceptions and only 165 yards (come to think of it those kind of sound like Jay Cutler type numbers).

Grossman was later replaced by Kyle Orton, who was to be replaced by Jay Cutler until present day. And one theme has remained throughout each quarterbacks tenure with the Bears: disappointment.

So as the 2015 free agency frenzy begins on March 10th, do not put it past the Bears to try and find a creative solution to their offensive problem. Even if that means trading away their quarterback who was supposed to be their savior, instead of the reason for their recent downfall.
