Devin McCourty is on the Philadelphia Eagles’ radar.

Even though the Philadelphia Eagles brought in two of the better-known free agents available on the market in Byron Maxwell and Frank Gore, it appears that they’re aiming to bring in another quality free agent before the league year officially begins on Tuesday. In 2014, the Eagles, thanks to Nolan Carroll, Cary Williams, and Bradley Fletcher, had arguably the worst secondary in the NFL.

After bringing in Maxwell, the best free agent cornerback, the Eagles have already made great strides to upgrade their secondary.

According to Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports, the Eagles have had a ton of interest in safety Devin McCourty and they have been in talks with McCoury, a player who can play both cornerback and safety.

Considering that receivers like Dez Bryant, Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, and DeSean Jackson all play inside the NFC East, the Eagles have made it a point to make improvements to their secondary. At 5-foot-10, 195 pounds, McCourty doesn’t have great size, but he roams the field extremely well. He has great vision and ball skills that allow him to be the center fielder of the defense he plays for. In New England, with one of the better pass rushers in the league, McCourty paired with Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. The three made up one of the best secondaries in football, and by adding Maxwell and McCourty, the Eagles are trying to turn one of weaknesses from 2014 into a strength for 2015.

Even if the Eagles fail to land McCourty, Getlin also pointed out that the Eagles have contingency plans in place. So, if the Eagles do not land McCourty, they will still be trying to land other secondary guys. Chris Culliver and Buster Skrine are two guys who could be fallback plans for Philadelphia.
