Texans’ Jadeveon Clowney went to the emergency room after being bitten by a teammate’s dog

Jadeveon Clowney has had the worst luck since coming to the NFL.

Clowney, the number one overall pick in last year’s draft, injured his knee in the Texans’ first regular season game. The complications from that injury led to him having two surgeries, playing in only four games. He is still recovering from the second knee surgery.

He hasn’t seen a football field in months, but that doesn’t mean that Clowney is safe from injury.

According to Houston’s SportsRadio 610, Clowney was bitten by a pit bull belonging to Texans teammate D.J. Swearinger last week.

Clowney went to the emergency room on March 4 after the dog’s bite broke the skin of his arm, but the local police department characterized the bite as “minor.”

“Animal control handled it as a standard call,” said Pearland police lieutenant Patrick Savage (police in the area are required to be notified of any animal bites). “Standard procedures were followed by our humane department and the animal control officer who went out there.”

No further medical information on Clowney was revealed. The dog’s vaccinations are up to date, and it seems to have been just a standard dog bite incident.

The dog is currently under home quarantine (side note: I didn’t know it was possible to put a dog under house arrest. Does the dog have one of those electronic ankle bracelets?).

The Texans declined comment on the situation.

Hopefully this dog bite isn’t some kind of omen of things to come for Clowney, who had a disappointing, injury-plagued rookie year, but still has plenty of time to prove himself worthy of the number one pick and all the hype he received coming out of college. Clowney ended the season with five tackles and zero sacks, playing in parts of four games.

Clowney is currently recovering from micro fracture surgery on his knee. Assuming he recovers well, he will finally be able to start showing his promise in this upcoming season with the Texans. Just so long as the other teams don’t get a pack of dogs on him. There may or may not even be a rule against that; I doubt the NFL rule makers thought they would need to specify “no dogs.”
