Daily Show host responds to University of Oklahoma frat SAE’s racist chants

Chalk up another reason that we’ll desperately miss Jon Stewart’s presence on the Daily Show.

The longtime Daily Show host always seems to know exactly what to say when it comes to big controversies. Most recently, he took on the case of the racist fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, at the University of Oklahoma.

For those unaware, a video surfaced showing members of the SAE fraternity at Oklahoma on a bus, chanting, “There will never be a ni**** SAE. You can hang him from a tree, but he can never sign with me.”

The fraternity has since been disbanded by the university, and two of the students involved have been expelled.

Stewart particularly took on the media’ response to the SAE situation, as some media commenters downplayed the idea that the chants were fueled by racism.

Stewart called out media members who blamed white people listening to rap music for the song, pointing out that this is “a word that predates rap.”

Stewart added that each time a racist incident comes to light “certain people in the media present it not as being indicative of a deep problematic racial divide in our nation” but as “an unending series of isolated events.” Following a clip of a Fox News guest saying “Racism is on its last leg,” Stewart responded, “Pretty strong f–king leg. I think it might be a bionic leg.”

Since only Stewart can really do it justice, here’s the full video of his segment on the SAE incident. Also, please don’t leave, Jon. We need you and your common sense.
