The New York Knicks continue to be mentioned with Kevin Love, but is he really a fit with the team or a forced solution to a big problem?

Kevin Love is not the most likable guy in the world — and he’s proved that himself twice over. He turned everyone in Minnesota against him and has now begun to wear Cleveland Cavaliers fans and teammates thin with his brash attitude and careless demeanor.

There’s a difference between being a straight shooter and being a douche — and Kevin Love has towed that line with glee for years. But as he faces the possibility of being on his third team in two years, Love’s name continues to be mentioned with the struggling New York Knicks.

According to New York Daily News insider Frank Isola, the Knicks may have interest in Kevin Love but there are a number of red flags that may lead to the team not giving him a max contract in the offseason. Among the reasons Isola lists is the fact that Kurt Rambis and Kevin Love don’t really get along, and the Knicks doling out big money for an aloof locker room problem might not be the best strategy.

Obviously, the Knicks with Kevin Love changes the entire makeup for the team and bumps Love up to a second option whereas he’s the third option right now. Isola lists Love’s struggles in his role as the third wheel in Cleveland as a red flag, but if Love can be the second wheel for Phil Jackson then there might not be a problem.

With Love and Carmelo Anthony leading the team, New York could then be open to trading their first-round pick for another established veteran — possibly Rajon Rondo.

There are a number of scenarios that could play out if the Knicks signed Kevin Love this offseason, but just like we’re seeing in Cleveland, more than a few of those scenarios see Love sticking out and becoming a problem. It’s a shame, as he’s a true talent, but there are serious red flags with Love going to the Knicks — and that’s true of him going anywhere this offseason.
