The Ottawa Senators would really like it if you would stop throwing perfectly fine hamburgers onto the ice.

Hockey fans are encouraged to throw hats on the ice when a player scores three goals in a game and records a hat trick and fans of the Detroit Red Wings have thrown octopus on the ice for decades, but the Ottawa Senators are imploring their fans to stop throwing hamburgers on the ice.

Who throws a perfectly fine hamburger on the ice?

Well, when your goalie is Andrew “the Hamburgler” Hammond” and has almost single-handedly lifted the Senators into the playoffs by going 14-0-1 with a 1.67 goals-against average since taking over as the team’s starting goalie after languishing in the minor leagues, you chuck some burgers in celebration.

Hammond’s teammates, Erik Karlsson and Marc Methot recorded a very important message pleading with fans to refrain from throwing their hamburgers on the ice.

“Hey fans, Erik and Marc here, we want to thank you for your support this season,” Karlsson read from the cue card. “We hear you at each game and feel the energy that you bring. But we have a favor to ask: While you’re at the game, if you could refrain from throwing things on the ice, including hamburgers, it will help us win the game. Also, we spoke with Curtis [Lazar] and he has promised to wait until we are off the ice to have his postgame meal.

The Senators have a one-point lead and a game in hand on the Boston Bruins for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and host the New York Rangers tonight at Canadian Tire Center tonight, so will the fans heed the warning from Karlsson and Methot if Hammond stands on his head again?

Hopefully, because wasting a hamburger is offensive, so please if you’re going to throw anything, let it be a salad. No one wants that anyway.
