Jameis Winston is considering staying home for NFL draft to celebrate moment with grandmother.

Jameis Winston is expected to be the top quarterback taken in the NFL draft in April. He would be the first player to walk up to Commissioner Roger Goodell to shake his hand and put on his team cap and wave his jersey in front of everyone if he decided to come out to the NFL Draft. What else would he miss though? That is his only moment during the NFL draft. He sits in a room waiting for the his name to be called and as soon as it is called, then he walks up to shake the commissioners hand and puts on a team cap and then his day is done.

He could avoid some embarrassment if he were to actually slip down the draft board. If the Buccaneers were to move in another direction, then the cameras would keep coming back to him to see his reactions on every selection. Who needs that camera up in the grill for all that time? At least he could do that part at home with his family.

Winston is considering staying home for the event to celebrate the day with his family and his grandmother that is unable to fly. It seems like a legit plan to stay home. In 2007, Joe Thomas decided to stay home for the NFL draft and he was selected 3rd overall by the Cleveland Browns. Thomas actually took the day to go fishing instead of heading to the draft.

It is a huge event for the fans and is an exciting day for a lot of the rookies entering into the league. The event is not mandatory though. All that matters is how he responds when he hits the football field. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would rather see him get to training camp ready to run the offense. Will he be able to get the ball out to Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans? That is all that the Buccaneers will want to see out of him.

Winston can find another moment to walk up to Roger Goodell to shake his hand and get his team hat. If he wants to spend his big moment with his grandmother instead, then nobody should give him any crap for his plan. It will be strange to see the first selection made and nobody walking up to take their jersey and hat, but the fans should survive. I am sure that they will find a way to get a camera in his home anyway.
