New York Jets fans are starting a fundraiser to purchase their team after years and years of suffering at the hand of poor ownership.

It doesn’t take a football genius to figure out the New York Jets organization isn’t being run to its full potential. Woody Johnson is the current owner and according to these faithful Jets fans, he isn’t cutting it. So what is the most logical thing to do if your current owner isn’t living up to your expectations? Well, buy the team of course.

According to these two die-hard Jets fans, Mickey and Mark, they may have found a way to do that. The only thing is they are going to need a bit of help financially. The two estimate they will need $1.8 billion dollars to buy the Jets, so they are asking Jets fans to enter into a partnership with them as co-owners to purchase the team and run them from a fans’ perspective.

You have to give it to these two guys. They are pretty optimistic about this whole thing going through. Then again, they are Jets fans. So it’s not too surprising they are looking on the bright side.

Some of the infamous moves the two potential owners cited for wanting take over the Jets were drafting Ken O’Brien over Dan Marino and Geno Smith more recently. They think that their knowledge as football fans far exceeds the business mind of Woody Johnson. I can’t help to agree with them either. The last Jets championship was in 1968. Even Rex Ryan can’t be solely blamed for that massive drought too.

To further persuade more Jets fans to join they also posed certain enticements, like showering with the Jets in the locker room, cheering with the cheerleaders, or sending a player to a Jet-themed bar mitzvah. The package is perfect for a fan who has a little extra money who just wants to support their team.

Is this really plausible though? $1.8 billion dollars is quite the steep climb. But the two break it down for their audience making that big number not seem so huge. If ever sports Jets fan, sports fanatic, or just an intrigued individual who wants to own a football team out there just donated 25 bucks each, they would need just 72 million donations. Then when you consider how many angry Jets fans are out there, the number shrinks even further.

Owning a football team was once thought to be out of reach for your average joe. With Mickey and Mark passionately pouring there hearts out, begging Jets fans to help co-own their favorite team, suddenly it doesn’t seem so far away. It will be interesting to see where this campaign goes and if it even works out. They pledge that if they don’t reach their goal, they will give the money back to the donaters. Additionally, one of their first decisions as owners will be lowering beer prices at home games. If that doesn’t convince New Yorkers to invest in becoming an owner, I don’t know what will.
