The star Minnesota Vikings running back will be reinstated on Friday.

More from Minnesota Vikings

After seven months on the commissioner’s exempt list, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been reinstated by Roger Goodell and will resume his football career on Friday.

Peterson was initially indicted on September 12 of last season for excessive discipline of his son. He pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless injury charges and was suspended by Goodell on November 18 before moving back to the exempt list on February 26.

Goodell met with Peterson for the first time in the process on April 7 and is now reinstated less than two weeks later. Darren Rovell of ESPN tweeted a picture of the letter Goodell wrote to Peterson, officially confirming the commissioner’s decision.

While certainly controversial, nothing about this letter or reinstatement process comes as much of a surprise. Goodell is apparently satisfied with Peterson’s commitment to understanding his mistakes, including attending therapy and counselling.

While the Vikings resume workouts on Monday, it could be longer until we see Peterson actually on the field again. It’s unclear if Peterson will participate in Minnesota’s offseason programs at the moment, and a trade looks like the best option for both sides.
