With the Boston Celtics falling to a 3-0 deficit at the hand of the Cleveland Cavaliers, can they come back and win the series?

The Boston Celtics organization has seen many positive things come alive from their 2014-15 season. They were just happy to make it to the playoffs this year. After stumbling to a 15-27 record in the first half of the regular season, they started to come together as a team and ended up landing the seven seed behind forward Evan Turner.

Fans also realized how good of a coach Brad Stevens really is. When you look at the roster and depth of the Celtics, its hard to realize they are a playoff team. Much of that disbelief is due to Brad Stevens establishing himself as one of the best coaches out there right now.

As they saw the Cleveland Cavaliers across from them in game one, the Celtics asked themselves “Why can’t we beat the Cavs?” Do you really blame them? With backup point guard Isiah Thomas playing at such a high level and everyone else really buying into Coach Stevens system, their confidence was high.

After getting beat down in three straight games by a far more athletic, skilled, and deep Cleveland Cavalier team, that confidence seems to be gone. The Celtics have come out in each game with energy and  exitement, ready to take it to the king. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been enough, and it won’t be enough moving forward.

Maybe the Celtics can steal one or two games away from the Cavs, but there is no way they come all the way back from down 3-0 to the second best team in the East. Here are three reason why coming back from a 3-0 deficit is near impossible for the Celtics.

1. History is against them

In the history of the NBA, no team has come back from a 3-0 deficit. I highly doubt that the Celtics are going to rewrite history. They have played the Cavs close each game. Maybe even if a couple balls bounce their way in game 3 it might be 2-1. This doesn’t take away from the long road that is ahead of them which is four wins in a row.

Even if Evan Turner somehow goes off for 25 points and Isiah Thomas dishes out 10 assists, the Cavs will have to play their absolute worst game if the Celtics want a chance. Which might just happen. However, this going on for 4 games straight is not just unlikely, it’s near impossible.

2. They are playing LeBron James

There isn’t another player in the NBA who is as feared in the playoffs as LeBron James. His efficiency around the rim ranks among the best of all time. He can defend just about any position on the court. Most importantly, he has been here before.

LeBron has been to the NBA Finals the last three season, coming away with a championship two of those three seasons. His experience and skill will reign supreme this year. So for now, the Celtics will probably have to accept defeat until next year.

3. They are too young

The one thing the Celtics do have on the Cavaliers is their age. Boston is young. A little too young to be upsetting any superior team. They are and up and coming team in the NBA. So they must be patient and develop as a team so that maybe in a year or two they can compete in the playoffs.

After all, the Cavaliers oldest player, Shawn Marion (36) is just two years younger than the Celtics coach, Brad Stevens (38). Not to take anything away from Stevens because age is just a number. He is still one of the best coaches in the NBA. He is just one of the few he doesn’t have any grey hair or is going bald. I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or not.

So cheer up Celtics fans. Your team may not be able to compete this year against the Cavs, but the future is bright. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Celtics are in the playoffs next year as a legitimate Eastern Conference contender. What they have done this year has been quite impressive. So keep the ball rolling and don’t quit.
