The Cleveland Cavaliers are on to the next round of the NBA Playoffs, but J.R. Smith may be facing a suspension which he is ‘nervous as hell’ about.

The Cleveland Cavaliers might be without J.R. Smith moving forward in the postseason, and it’s not because of a Kevin Love-type injury. Instead, Smith is facing a possible suspension by the NBA after he clobbered Jae Crowder in the face.

The hit wasn’t met with much sympathy on Twitter, as basketball analysts and fans were quick to call out J.R. Smith for being dirty and applauded his ejection from the game. Now Smith is facing a suspension that not many are saying he doesn’t deserve.

Smith himself is very aware that he could be facing a suspension from the NBA and isn’t taking the idea of such a thing lightly. He’s professing his innocence when it comes to the brutality of the foul but it’s falling on mostly deaf ears.

After the Cavaliers beat the Celtics in Game 4 — largely without the help of J.R. Smith — the Cavaliers guard stated that he’s nervous about being suspended.

Smith should be nervous about a suspension, as while he may be claiming that it wasn’t an intentional foul that doesn’t change how dirty it was.

The big thing in all of this is Jae Crowder’s knee. It buckled bad after he was hit and if he suffered significant damage of any kind, that could lengthen a suspension for Smith. Crowder has a lot on the line with his rise in the postseason and could be out of some money if he has ligament damage and misses time.

As for Smith, he has money on the line as well, but he also has the weight of a title on his shoulders too and this sort of play that could result in a suspension is the last thing the Cavaliers need.
