As the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, Jameis Winston has a lot of expectations riding on him, such as succeeding as Week One starter for the Buccaneers.

When you’re drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, it’s almost a given that you will be the starter from day one in the league these days. However, Jameis Winston was joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team who had drafted a quarterback in the third round before the 2013 season and hoped he would pan out as the future gunslinger.

That hasn’t been the case for last year’s draft pick Mike Glennon who is already on the outside of the quarterback competition looking in. Glennon was the backup to veteran Josh McCown for a majority of last season after having a solid rookie campaign.

During his rookie year, Glennon played in 13 games and completed nearly 60 percent of his passes for 2,608 yards, 19 touchdowns and just nine interceptions.

Unfortunately for him, the team signed McCown after he had a stellar season with the Chicago Bears, and Glennon’s second year in the league was one to forget — he played in just six games, passing for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns and six picks.

According to NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, G.M. Jason Licht said that Winston will have every opportunity to start for the Buccaneers in week one.

"“It’s pretty difficult to say with a straight face that we’re not going to give Jameis that opportunity to win it right away. He’s the first overall pick. We think he’s very advanced in terms of his ability to play and pick up schemes and concepts and learn the playbook relative to most rookies, or any rookie we’ve scouted in recent history. So he’s gonna have every opportunity.”"

There’s really no argument for the idea of starting Glennon over Winston, but the third-year quarterback has to be feeling a bit shafted after this recent news.

With Jameis being the likely starter for the team’s week one game against the Tennessee Titans, that will make for some big early season promotion as the No. 1 quarterback chosen will face the No. 2 overall pick, Marcus Mariota, in that game.

Winston won the Heisman Trophy during his freshman season at Florida State in 2013 while Mariota won last year’s award at Oregon as Jameis took a bit of a step back in 2014, in terms of numbers.

The two will make headlines as the top two rookies chosen facing off against each other for bragging right to start their respective careers.
