The Chicago Bears nearly traded Brandon Marshall to the New England Patriots last offseason.

The Chicago Bears were a disaster last season, so much so that they fired everyone on the coaching staff and in the front office and traded away threat $30 million star receiver.

Brandon Marshall was a casualty of regime change in Chicago, as he was traded to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick in they year’s draft. But it wasn’t just the new regime who wanted to rid themselves of Marshall — it was the regime that gave him a contract extension last May worth $22.3 million guaranteed.

According to Marshall himself, who spoke on the Carmen and Juko Show (via the Chicago-Sun Times), the receiver was almost traded to the New England Patriots in 2014, shortly before he signed his three-year extension with the Bears.

Could you imagine Brandon Marshall and Tom Brady on the same team together? Who needs to default footballs to get ahead when you have that tandem. A lot of us wondered what Brady in his prime could have done with Randy Moss in his prime, as we saw the duo make NFL history together at time times in their careers when they met.

Brandon Marshall could have been that guy, and it could have been incredibly special to watch.

Then again, New England still won the Super Bowl in 2014, so really the only thing to gain from a Brady-Marshall relationship would have been personal glory and fantasy football joygasms.

Brady has only once in his career had a No. 1 receiving target, and that was Randy Moss. Marshall would have been dangerous as Brady’s go-to threat but it will be one of the lost ‘What-If’ situations we can only play out in Madden.
