La’el Collins is a member of the Dallas Cowboys, but the St. Louis Rams almost changed that before Jerry Jones could get ink on paper.

The Dallas Cowboys are in possession of one of the most highly anticipated offenses in the NFL. Folks are looking forward to either watching and hating on the success of the Cowboys or relishing in watching it crash and burn thanks to the nature of the team and how it was build on the backs of questionable characters.

La’el Collins is unfairly being lumped in with the likes of Randy Gregory and Greg Hardy, and he almost didn’t have to endure those comparisons.

According to ESPN.com’s Nick Wagoner, the St. Louis Rams were in the discussion to sign La’el Collins before he inked his deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

"Yeah, we were involved in it,” Fisher said. “There were some things, we still had some unanswered questions at the time in which he made his decision but we were involved. We were told by them that we were in the final four, which is not necessarily a consolation but we were involved, yes.”"

Collins is part of what many are deeming the best offensive line in football down in Dallas, but the same case could have been made if he had signed with the Rams instead. St. Louis has monsters on their offensive front like Greg Robinson and others, and adding Collins to the mix could have provided new additions Nick Foles and Todd Gurley with massive protection.

The Rams will still have an interesting offense moving forward in 2015, but Collins could have made them a more complete front. Still, Todd Gurley is going to find holes and Nick Foles is going to be mostly protected and the Rams season never hinged on whether or not they’d be able to sign Collins this offseason.
