The Miami Heat went big in their trade for Goran Dragic this season, and they’re looking to keep him in South Beach longer than half a season.

Goran Dragic wore out his welcome in Phoenix very quickly as he was paranoid about the front office and frankly wanted to get paid to do what he loves to do — quarterback an offense and score points. That’s what Dragic did when he was acquired by the Miami Heat in February, but he was traded for knowing that he could walk this summer to another team.

That would be a loss for the Heat though, and it there’s one thing Pat Riley doesn’t willingly do, it’s lose.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Miami Heat remain the favorites to land Goran Dragic in free agency, despite obvious interest from teams like the Lakers and Knicks.

Really, this comes down to one thing — does Tragic want to get paid or win? Pat Riley is the type of evil genius that he has convinced Dragic he can do both in South Beach and that’s a major selling tool in getting the guard to remain in Miami.

The reason the Dragic wants to return to Miami is his love for Riley and head coach Erik Spoelstra. Adding Dragic back to the payroll won’t be an easy task though, as it’s a move that will cost the Heat a pretty penny and may cause them to make some moves that limit the talent they can bring in.

That being said, the Heat have been desperately trying to fill the void left in their Big 3 when LeBron James left last summer, and having Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Goran Dragic teamed up could be something that puts them over the top. The Heat make the playoffs this year if Bosh is healthy, and that’s the allure that rests before the yes of Dragic as he ponders potential max deals from New York and Los Angeles this summer.
