Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Blake Sims has taken his talents to the Canadian Football League, joining the Toronto Argonauts, according to Everett Sports Marketing. Sims started for Alabama as a senior after sitting behind A.J. McCarron, who led Alabama to a championship over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2012-13.

As a senior, Sims led the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff before being pounded by the eventual National Champion, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Sims threw for 3,487 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2014-15, although his accuracy was questionable on NFL throws. Sims is also 5-foot-11, hurting his stock significantly.

Sims went through the NFL Draft process but could not convince any team to take a shot on him. Ultimately, the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers both gave Sims a tryout, but neither team was impressed enough to sign him. With those doors closed, Sims had the choice of moving to a different league or waiting for training camp’s attrition to open up spots.

Apparently, Toronto and the CFL has given Sims a good enough opportunity to convince him to sign. Sims might be heading to Canada in hopes of establishing himself as a professional-level quarterback before going to the NFL. This path has been traveled before by Doug Flutie and Warren Moon, the latter of which is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Sims is keeping his career alive and earning some money playing football, something that has to be a dream for any college football player, even in Canada.
