Kevin Owens reportedly heading to WWE main roster

Kevin Owens is reportedly the newest member of the WWE main roster.

Kevin Owens is scheduled to work Sunday’s WWE’s Elimination Chamber 2015 in a match that will pit the NXT Champion against United States Champion John Cena. The predominant belief seemed to be that this would be a one-off fight to capitalize on the growing popularity of NXT.

However, it now appears that Owens will be heading to the main roster on a permanent basis. A report from PW Insider says that Owens is scheduled for all Monday Night RAWs through July, in addition to being advertised for July’s WWE Battleground pay-per-view and six house shows.

The Wrestling Observer confirmed the report, saying that Owens has signed a new deal with the company that makes him a member of the main roster. The Observer is also reporting that Owens will continue to appear on NXT for the next few months, with the developmental brand’s taping schedule unlikely to interfere with his scheduled appearances on the main roster.

Speculation regarding the reasons for the call-up center around Owens being a monster heel that can replace the injured Rusev, who is now not advertised to return to main roster action until early August.

This is huge for Owens, who has not been with NXT for even a year. However, he immediately incorporated himself into the roster and became one of the best characters on the show. To put it simply, he grasped the ineffable quality that renders success and allows certain performers to succeed in WWE right away. He’s shown off that talent over the past couple of weeks during his program with Cena in the lead up to Elimination Chamber.

The curious part about Owens’ call-up right now, though, is that he’s not scheduled to appear at June’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view. While that could be a result of Owens just being signed to this new deal, or even just WWE holding out on announcing the participants for the Money In The Bank match itself, it’d be a shame to not see such a hot, young superstar not appear at one of the company’s biggest summer events.

Even if this is just a temporary replacement for another performer with an injury, it’s well-deserved and something that WWE fans have to be excited for. Owens is absolute money and can inject excitement into the roster immediately. It’s fantastic to see him get the chance to do just that.
