Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has garnered all the heat in the world this offseason regarding possible racism, but Riley Cooper has come to his rescue.

Chip Kelly has been the subject of some criticism recently. After seeming to be the mastermind behind the trade of LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills, the former Philadelphia Eagles running back fired back at the head coach, calling him a racist.

While it was unclear as to why McCoy felt this way, it was something that wasn’t taken very lightly and Kelly seemed to be hurt by it. Kelly even tried to reach out to LeSean after the fact, but the all-pro back never returned his calls.

Now that the words are out in the open, Kelly has been answering the media’s questions regarding the matter, but he can do nothing but shoot down the inquiries and move on.

However, some of Kelly’s players are beginning to step up in his defense, according to Pro Football Talk.

Eagles’ wide receiver Riley Cooper, who has been called a racist himself, heard about the news and referred to the allegations of Kelly being a racist as ‘upsetting.’ This is what he had to say to the Delaware County Times:

"“It’s definitely difficult and upsetting for sure. I know [Kelly is] not like that.”"

Cooper’s words may not hold much substance in this matter given his muddied racial past, once using a slur at a concert with friends that went viral, but it’s refreshing to see that some of Kelly’s own players don’t believe that McCoy was being honest in his remarks.

If Cooper’s words aren’t enough, Fletcher Cox also spoke highly of Kelly:

"“I think everything around here is equal. Everything around here is equal. Chip treats everybody the same. I don’t think there’s a difference.I really don’t know what he said. I haven’t read it. I know LeSean. I mean, he’s a good friend. I still text him now and again and see him from time to time. I just don’t want to get caught up in that. And I continue to see LeSean as a friend.”"

It may seem like McCoy was frustrated with the trade that shocked the NFL and sent him to the Buffalo Bills while the Eagles snagged DeMarco Murray. Either way, until McCoy speaks on this matter, we will never know the truth behind the allegations or what had happened to make him feel as if Chip is racist.

Current Eagles players see no problem, though.
