Andrew Bogut: It’s nice to have a coach that’s not full of himself

With the NBA Finals right around the corner, Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut found a way to both throw a compliment at his coach Steve Kerr and make a dig at his former coach Mark Jackson

Throughout the 2014-15 regular season, it has become increasingly clear that Golden State’s Steve Kerr is the best and most valuable new head coach in the NBA. Even with

sad Muppet

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Dave Blatt looking to jump ahead of Kerr to become the first rookie head coach to win the NBA Finals since Pat Riley in 1982, it has become obvious that Kerr is the better coach.

Even his center Andrew Bogut thinks so.

That was too kind of Bogut to say. That’s just a compliment for his coach with no ulterior motive for making a dig at someone else. It’s not like Bogut is making a comment about his former coach Mark Jackson or anything.

I guess Jackson did make Andrew Bogut play through a rib injury late into 2014, one that eventually forced him to sit out of the playoffs. Mark Jackson initially thought that Bogut’s injury was bogus, and after Jackson was fired from Golden State the two have been throwing shade each other’s way, such as during a January game between the Warriors and Cavs.

From Deadspin:

"You think you trade for [Timofey] Mozgov and you say, “Ok that seals up the defense.” To me a rim protector is overrated in this league, and I say that because you look at the Warriors. No Andrew Bogut, and their defense and stays, or even improves, because of the principles, the identity, what they force you to do. At the end of the day the Cavs have to get to that level."

The topic of Kerr also came up during that game.

"Yes like caterpillars RT @stepheniota: @andrewbogut are rim protectors overrated? #Askbogey— Andrew Bogut (@andrewbogut) February 12, 2015Bogut on Mark Jackson endorsing Harden for MVP: “Well it was April Fool’s Day”— Ethan Strauss (@SherwoodStrauss) April 3, 2015Hilarity when Bogut talked Curry for MVP: “Well what’s his name said no. What’s that guy’s name? Mark? I don’t remember his name”— Ethan Strauss (@SherwoodStrauss) April 3, 2015"

Why don’t you two just kiss already? The sexual tension is killing me.

I’m torn with this feud.

On one hand, they need to move on. Jackson wasn’t exactly a failure as a head coach, but he is doing well returning to his role as a broadcaster. He doesn’t need to beef up his accomplishments as the coach of the Warriors for one year to validate his career. And Bogut is well on his way to winning his first title, and the Warriors are set up to be a wonderful destination for years to come. Neither of them need to be looking in the rearview mirror.

On the other hand, how great would it be if, after the Warriors win the Finals, Jackson came out from the announcing booth to congratulate his former Dubs players. He goes to shake Bogut’s hand, but just as he gets close, Bogut pulls it away and brushes it through his hair.

Hand down.

Man down.
