The Miami Heat are in danger of losing Dwyane Wade in free agency, and distrust in the front office may lead to the split happening.

When the Miami Heat lost LeBron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers last summer, there was still hope that the franchise could rebound from things and make a run at the NBA Finals. That dream died in the regular season when the Heat failed to make the postseason and that might kickstart a rebuilding process of sorts for the franchise.

Dwyane Wade controls his own fate this offseason, as he has a $16 million player option for the 2015-16 season but there’s no guarantee that he’ll pick that up. There’s been speculation that Wade wants a long-term contract that will pay him back the money he put into the franchise over the years, but his desire to leave might have more to do with distrust with the front office than anything else.

According to Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel, there is some belief that Dwyane Wade has lost faith in the Heat front office and may not believe that the team is in a ‘win-now’ mode.

All of this speculation and anxiety revolves around the fact that Wade might not believe the Heat are trying to win it all right now. Wade has only a handful of years left and probably less thanks to his bad knees and if the Heat aren’t going to win now then he has zero incentive to stay.

It’s not about money at this point in Wade’s career, it’s about how many rings he can win. He was the mad scientist behind tearing LeBron James away from the Cavaliers to be a mercenary in Miami and win titles. It would be wildly hypocritical of Wade to then back off the mercenary role if it afforded him chances to win more rings before his career is over.

Wade could go to Los Angeles and help complete the Clippers, especially if money isn’t the biggest issue for him this summer. There’s also a place for him in Cleveland if he wanted to go there as well as places like Chicago and Milwaukee.

Either way, the Heat are in no way guaranteed to have Wade return in 2015-16 and it ill be a story to watch this summer.
