Draymond Green wants to give the Golden State Warriors dibs on his talents in NBA Free Agency.

Draymond Green had a monster 2014-15 NBA season, playing an integral role on the NBA Champion Golden State Warriors. League MVP Stephen Curry was the team’s superstar, but it was Green’s move into the starting rotation that elevated the Warriors to the championship strata.

Now the 25-year-old big man is available in NBA Free Agency, and many people see him getting a big payday. Considering his positional versatility, along with the fact that he finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting in just his third season, Green signing a massive new contract isn’t a far-fetched notion.

However, it appears as though he is chiefly looking to stay with Golden State. As Ramona Shelburne of ESPN is reporting, Green’s first meeting once free agency begins on Wednesday will be with the Warriors. If all goes well, Golden State could be the only team with whom he speaks.

The idea that Green would be willing to operate in free agency like this only further speaks to the camaraderie and loyalty that was evident with the Warriors during their title run. He realizes that there is something special happening in the Bay Area and wants to remain a part of it.

More importantly, though, it’s also an exercise in trying not to waste time. Green will almost undoubtedly stay with Golden State; his versatility and what he does for their lineup composition is too vital to the team’s success for it to let him walk. Even if the money isn’t right in this first meeting and Green does end up speaking with other teams, I wouldn’t expect Green to be anywhere other than the Warriors next season.
