Carli Lloyd led the United States women’s national team past Germany in the Women’s World Cup semifinals.

The United States women’s national team and Germany squared off in the semifinals of the Women’s World Cup. Early in the game it looked like Germany would have their way with the USA, challenging.

Germany had a header particularly early that threatened to score but went over the bar.

After that point it was pretty much all USA for the rest of the first half. They even forced an incredible save from German goal keeper Nadine Angerer after a beautiful header off the corner.

Angerer saved the German side again minutes later once USWNT forward Alex Morgan got through and in on goal in a one-on-one situation. Angerer was able to get the save.

The USWNT were even getting ugly chances like this Tobin Heath opportunity, but she wasn’t able to connect well and get the a quality shot off.

Morgan was on the attack again creating her own opportunity this time. It looked like she missed an open teammate in the center of the box, and her shot wasn’t on target.

But it was a beautiful display of skill from Morgan to create the opportunity.

Later in the first half it looked like the USWNT were doomed after Germany was awarded a penalty. German forward Celia Sasic missed the mark, keeping the score at 0-0.

Roughly 10 minutes later the United States caught their own break when a controversial call on the edge of the box on Alex Morgan awarded the USWNT a penalty of their own.

Carli Lloyd stepped up to take the penalty and buried it to the right. Angerer dove the opposite direction. Just like that the USWNT had a 1-0 lead

Moments later the USWNT were able to add the insurance goal thanks to Lloyd once again. Lloyd crossed the ball to an open Kelley O’Hara, who redirected it into the back of the net.

The United States will face the winner of the other semifinal between England and Japan in the Women’s World Cup Final. If Japan wins it would be a rematch of the 2011 Final.
