The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to sign Kevin Love away from the Cleveland Cavaliers, and they plan on meeting with him this week.

When the Cleveland Cavaliers traded for Kevin Love last summer, everyone thought it was going to be the formation of another Big 3 with LeBron that won more titles than the previous incarnation in Miami. What ended up happening was a season full of growing pains and problems — more often then not surrounding Love and LeBron.

It wasn’t what you’d call a partnership made in basketball heaven, but is a divorce really what is called for after just one season? That’s what the Los Angeles Lakers are hoping for, and they’re going to do their best to facilitate that when they meet with Love this offseason.

According to Chris Broussard from ESPN.com, the Lakers will be meeting with Kevin Love this week in an attempt to lure him away from the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers appear to be the front runners to re-sign Love this summer, as they can offer him a max contract that they fully intend on pushing to his side of the table. The Lakers are one of a handful of teams that will make a run at Love in the coming days, as the Celtics, Knicks and Heat are all possible destinations for Love.

Of course, he’ll probably go back to Cleveland and continue to work on his relationship with LeBron, Kyrie Irving and the other members of the Cavs who got to the NBA Finals this past season.

It’s basically a foregone conclusion that the NBA Finals will feature a LeBron James team, which means Love had best choose wisely if he plans on leaving Cleveland while also having success away from the best basketball player on the planet.
