Entering his second season in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns in 2015, quarterback Johnny Manziel has a lot on his plate this summer. After a lackluster first season in the league, coupled with his off-the-field issues during the off-season, that plate is larger for Manziel than ever before.
However, that doesn’t mean he won’t take some time out to test his fantasy baseball skills out in the month of July against you the fans. Yes, you can get the chance for the better part of this month to take on Johnny Manziel in a daily fantasy baseball contest.
As we’ve seen over the course of the past couple years, fantasy sports are bigger than they ever have been, and with that we’ve seen the emergence of one-day fantasy sports sites such as Draft Kings and FanDuel. Well, Manziel is partnering up with the folks at DailyMVP for this event, and in the end it’s all really for a good cause and maybe some money in your own pocket.
The contest began on July 1 and it will run through July 24. All you have to do is visit PlayJohnny.com and you can get yourself all set up and ready to take on the former Heisman winner in Fantasy Baseball. The entry fee is $5 and you get to select a pitcher, infielder and outfielder. There’s the opportunity for you to net $4 if you’re victorious against the Browns quarterback, but if he wins, his donations will go right towards charity. That’s where the “good cause” of all this comes into play.
Now before you embark on this adventure, keep in mind that Manziel was not too shabby of a baseball player in his day. Just last year, not long after being drafted by the Browns in the first round of the NFL Draft, he was selected by the San Diego Padres in the MLB Amateur Draft. So don’t think for a second that he doesn’t know his baseball and maybe can’t wipe the floor with you.
Still, though, in the end this is a great partnership altogether and it’s nice to see someone the caliber of Manziel’s notoriety take part in something that interacts with the fans so closely. Fantasy sports really are changing the landscape of all sports, and this is just another perfect example of that.
