The New York Knicks are making a serious play for Robin Lopez, but the cross-country Lakers might snag him before they can strike a deal.

NBA free agency is well underway, and there are still players on the market who are looking for new deals from new teams. DeAndre Jordan is the best free agent on the market, but he’s not the only player who is highly coveted.

Another big man that teams are keeping an eye on is Robin Lopez. He’s developed his game nicely with the Trail Blazers, and it’s now time for him to get a piece of the pie that is being passed around in the form of massive contracts to middle of the road players.

According to Adrian Wojnaowski from Yahoo! Sports, the Lakers are a serious consideration for Robin Lopez.

Sideshow Bob taking his talents to Hollywood would be great for the Lakers, and would be another blow to the Knicks pitiful offseason. New York is starting to get towards the bottom of their list of free agents they want to target, and missing on Lopez could be a killer.

Los Angeles isn’t really a free agent destination, but adding Lopez to a core that could include Kobe, D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle is much better than anything they put on the floor last year.

It’s not the most perfect lineup, but the Lakers with that core could at the very least make a run at the postseason as an 8-seed next season.
