With the 2015 Home Run Derby coming up, there is speculation as to whether or not Chicago Cubs’ star third baseman Kris Bryant will be competing.

For two consecutive seasons, the MLB Home Run Derby champion has been current Detroit Tigers‘ outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. While he will likely compete in this year’s contest as well, barring injury, there are rumors going around as to who will face off against him.

Rookie third baseman Kris Bryant was just elected to the All-Star Game during his first season in the majors, something that is very rare to see these days. As a solid home run hitter, Bryant has also been asked about joining this year’s pool of players who will try to knock off Cespedes and he seemed up to the idea.

We may not find out until the weekend who the competitors are for the contest, but Bryant needs to be one of them as baseball’s brightest young star. Playing for the oft-mediocre Chicago Cubs, Bryant has reinvigorated the organization and he, along with Addison Russell and Anthony Rizzo, has brought the Cubs into the spotlight for all the right reasons.

Chicago’s future is bright and first-time All-Star Kris Bryant is a big reason for that. What’s next for the power-hitting infielder? We can all hope that it’s a Home Run Derby.

Let’s take a look at five reasons Kris Bryant simply can’t miss the 2015 Home Run Derby.
