New Heisman Trophy betting odds were released and you might be slightly surprised at who the favorite is

With the college football season nearly here for all of us to enjoy, it’s time for us to start speculating on who will be taking away the Heisman Trophy in December. With Marcus Mariota getting set to begin his NFL career, we are guaranteed a new winner of the most coveted individual prize in the game.

After the performance he put on in leading the Ohio State Buckeyes to the National Championship in the inaugural College Football Playoff, the betting favorite thus far has been running back Ezekiel Elliott. Following two games in which he scorched both Alabama and Oregon, it’s been a shock to no one that he’s been the betting favorite since the end of January.

However, we have a change at the top in the latest betting odds.

According to the latest odds released by Bovada, by a small margin, the new 2015 Heisman Trophy betting favorite is none other than TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin.

While you can very easily rationalize Boykin coming away with the award by the time the season is all said and done, it’s still hard to make an argument against Elliott. No matter who the quarterback is under center by the time the season rolls around, there’s no question that Elliott is the engine that makes this offense go. We saw that first-hand at the end of last season.

Also, with the Heisman Trophy ceremony taking place after the conference championship games are played, you have to wonder whether or not that’s a hindrance to Boykin’s chances. If the race comes down to the wire with these two specific players, Elliott will have one more chance to show off his skills to the very stingy Heisman voters.

That’s a question that will be answered sooner or later, but for now, Trevone Boykin is the favorite in Las Vegas to carry away the bronze statue.
