Kevin Garnett reportedly will return to Minnesota next season.

As long as there’s tread on the tires, Kevin Garnett is going to keep the party bus rolling along. KG will return to the Minnesota Timberwolves next year, Darren Wolfson is reporting.

According to Wolfson, Garnett is “incredibly excited and rejuvenated” about the return.

And so continues the third arc of Kevin Garnett’s career. Coming into the league at age 19, he was a wunderkind out of high school – a 6’11 forward/center who had range from all points on the court and could run like a gazelle. For 12 seasons he was the face of the Timberwolves, even guiding the team to the brink of an NBA Finals appearance.

When it became apparent that a title wasn’t possible in Minny, Garnett was packaged off to Boston where he and running mate Paul Pierce would resurrect the Celtics franchise, bring another title to the city and solidify a league-wide infatuation/trend with “Big 3s” (Ray Allen completing that Boston triangle).

It’s a sometimes difficult to fathom, but Garnett is now the elder statesman of a young Minnesota franchise that shows a lot of promise. Between reigning Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins and first overall draft pick Karl-Anthony Towns, the T-Wolves have two cornerstone frontcourt pieces. Though Garnett’s legacy with the franchise has long been cemented, helping the two youngsters successfully transition into the league seems a fitting swan song for the best player in team history. A perfect circle.
