Stone Cold Steve Austin has officially shot down any word that he’ll be returning to the wrestling ring ever again

On Monday none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin was announced as the cover wrestler for the upcoming WWE 2K16 video game. While this was a nice honor, of course it sparked more speculation that he might be returning to the wrestling ring, at least for one more match.

Well, Austin once again shot down any notion that a return to the ring might happen.

In an interview with MTV UK about being the cover athlete for the video game, Austin made it pretty crystal clear that he has no plans to ever lace up those black boots one more time for action.

“So I would go on record: don’t look forward to me putting on the trunks and knee braces to get back in the ring and stomp a mudhole in somebody and walking it dry. How’s that work for you?” Austin stated.

For a lot of people that’s going to be disappointing to hear, but the fact of the matter is that it’s always been highly unlikely that Austin would ever get back in the ring again. The injury that ended up putting the stops to his in-ring career back in 2003 was a severe neck injury, which is something that you don’t play around with, even for just one more shot in the squared circle. While Austin has indeed been told by doctors that he could get back in there if he wants to, it’s still a pretty big risk with his life.

Even though he’s not going to be getting into the ring, though, we’ll still be getting those amazing podcasts on the WWE Network, plus there’s a chance that we’ll get some live appearances in the near future on TV programming. Not to mention, with WrestleMania 32 in Texas next year, which is Austin’s home-state, they can find something for him to do there.

But as for seeing a Stone Cold Stunner to win a match again — that’s not happening.
