According to reports, an claims Young Thug and Birdman were involved in a plot to kill rapper Lil Wayne.

There were some interesting developments in the world of hip hop on Wednesday. Police executed a search warrant on the home of rapper Young Thug.

What might they be looking for? Well according to Mike Petchenik of WSBTV, an indictment alleges that Young Thug and Cash Money head honcho Birdman conspired to have rapper Lil Wayne killed.

Birdman and Lil Wayne, the former adopted father and son duo that ruled hip hop with their Cash Money and Young Money labels, have been beefing for months. Lil Wayne famously declared he wanted off Birdman’s label after repeated delays in the release of his album Tha Carter V, which was slated to come out in October of 2014.

Young Thug, a fellow member of Rich Gang alongside Birdman, also fell under the ire of Lil Wayne after he declared he’d release an album under “Tha Carter” banner, something almost sacred to Lil Wayne and his fans.

Both Young Thug and Birdman have found themselves the repeated target of verbal jabs from Wayne since.

Now it is important to note that while police searched the home of Young Thug, neither him or Birdman have actually been charged with anything at this moment.

And maybe more surprisingly, at least a portion of the case is based on rap lyrics and music videos.

And that the third party carried out the threats from the song and video.

Fortunately Lil Wayne was not seriously harmed.

This will be an interesting case to follow as more details come out, but again it is just a stain on a genre that already comes under fire for their lyrics. It will hurt the argument that lyrics are artistic expression detatched from real life.

It also hurts the countless MCs who craft beautiful and poetic lyrics describing a myriad of topics and highlighting real issues in the hopes that something positive can come about of it.
