Andre Miller and the Minnesota Timberwolves will be joining forces for the 2015-16 season as the veteran point guard enters his 17th season.

Just when you thought Andre Miller would be riding off into the sunset after a season in which he averaged just 4.4 points and 3.5 assists per game at the age of 39, he signs with yet another squad.

On Wednesday evening, it was announced that the 16-year vet will be playing his 17th NBA season with the Minnesota Timberwolves after inking a one-year deal.

This will mark Miller’s eighth team as a member of the NBA and his fourth since 2013.

The 39-year-old point guard will join a relatively young group of future stars and the front office hopes that he will rub off on the unproven talent. Joining Kevin Garnett, the Timberwolves have a couple of older guys who will make a positive impression on a young core of first and second-year players.

If you’re looking through the roster, you see guys like Zach LaVine, Anthony Bennett, Andrew Wiggins, Gorgui Dieng, Tyus Jones, Shabazz Muhammad, Ricky Rubio, Adriean Payne and Karl-Anthony Towns who are all under the age of 25 and have a chance to be stars.

Minnesota, without a doubt, is built for the future and adding a guy like Miller will help in improving the longevity of each of the players.

During his extensive career, the 1999 first-round pick has averaged 12.8 points, 6.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. Sure, earlier in his career he was much more electric and about 10 times more effective than he is now, but he is there primarily for teaching.

Many thought that 2014-15 may be his last season, but Miller stays in such great shape that he was able to make a comeback for the 2015-16 year and play until the age of 40 — and maybe even beyond.

This is a great move for Minnesota even though he will be used as a middle of the bench type of player. He will be there to coach up guys like Wiggins, LaVine, Jones and Rubio who are still young and learning the ropes in the NBA.

Before you ask or look it up, Miller and Garnett are a combined 78 years old — that’s the same as Tyus Jones, Zach LaVine, Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns combined. Yikes.

Good veteran leadership always wins, though.
