UPDATE: This deal is now official

Wednesday night we were all under the assumption that outfielder Carlos Gomez was headed to the New York Mets from the Milwaukee Brewers, but as we’d come to find out, that really wasn’t the case. From there folks wondered whether or not the Brewers would be able to find a new deal partner, and they have found one in the form of the Houston Astros.

Barring anything crazy happening like Wednesday night, it certainly seems as if Gomez is indeed on the move. There was a tentative deal announced on Wednesday that saw Gomez heading to the Mets, but we would learn later on in the night that New York wasn’t happy with Gomez in regards to his hip. This was something that was scoffed at by his agent, Scott Boras, but that was the reasoning nonetheless.

With the Astros holding a slim lead over the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West as we get set to enter the month of August soon, this is obviously one of the more intriguing deals of this year’s trade deadline. Gomez is currently batting .262 with eight home runs, so they’ve added a nice bat to make a run down the stretch here.

As you can also see, the Astros added an arm as well in the form of Mike Fiers. In 21 games this season Fiers is 5-9 with a 3.89 ERA in 118 innings pitched.

But the main addition to the team in this deal is Gomez, who will use that bat of his to see if he can help carry the Astros to a playoff run in 2015.

Here’s a look at the complete deal that was made on Thursday.
